Dr. Esmarch A German doctor was the pioneer person to establish St. John ambulance in1823 during the Prussian war. Earlier till 1870 it was known as “the national society for aid to sick & wounded “the first congress was held in Jerusalem and was chaired by his majesty duke of Manchester. Subsequently this society was known as “order of St. john hospital”. 1877 in England same society was re established as “St. john ambulance association” and since then on it has spread to all countries. In India since independence it has been active, it is the only government recognized certificate issuing authorized institute and the president of India is the hon. president for this institute. Their main aim is to provide basic knowledge regarding life saving & life threatening emergencies & disease.

St. John Ambulance is an International Organization with International Headquarters at London. The National Headquarters is at New Delhi, the President of India is the President at National level and the Governor of each State is the President at the State.

St. John Ambulance (India) is dedicated to work for the relief to the suffering of the sick and injured in War and peace, irrespective of cast, creed or nationality. To assist the medical profession, before the medical aid is available to the casualty.

To impart training to persons, general public and others in rendering first Aid in case of cast, creed or nationality. To assist the medical profession, before the medical aid is available to the casualty. To impart training to persons, general public and others in rendering First Aid in case of accident or sudden illness and in transportation of the sick and the injured and to take care of the sick and wounded during war. To teach elementary principles and practice of Home Nursing, Hygiene-Sanitation.

Our great leader Mahatma Gandhiji in his younger days was involved in First Aid Brigade and had volunteered in European wars. Post-Independence India has set up Red Cross Society as well as St. John Ambulance (India). We are proud to be a part of such prestigious lifesaving association.

In Vadodara St. John Ambulance (India) was established in 23rd March 1956. It is working as a separate entity by its own constitution and provides its humanitarian services through all over Vadodara District in the welfare of the mankind.
